Individual therapy

The pastAsking the question: what do you want to get out of counselling can be really hard to answer. At The Open Room we try and work with what’s troubling you, what got you booking a session with us and why now. We listen to you.

For some people, we help facilitate a transformation in their relationships and their lives; for others we help them solve a specific problem and to move forward with more confidence and less anxiety. For others just a small amount of awareness helps them feel more settled inside.

We like to demystify psychotherapy and share our knowledge with you, we may share models with you that give us ways of thinking about problems and how our minds work.

Model

Each session lasts 50 minutes, and we will ask you questions so that you can talk about what’s going on and how you feel. We may offer you advice or ideas to try at home; we have many small exercises that you can try that will help you stay focused outside of the sessions. 

If you are not someone who finds talking easy we can use other methods of communication, such as drawing your family history to begin mapping out your thoughts. It all depends on what feels right for you and what feels helpful.

All of us have made decisions for ourselves and our life that can feel wrong in the here and now. At The Open Room we are experienced at helping you discover and consider changes that are right for you as opposed to being right for others.  We will support you in your life journey……
